We have a strong history in supporting local businesses, having undertaken a wide variety of high quality research and consultancy activity and have a strong portfolio of successful research projects being undertaken in partnership with industry, local and national government; research councils and charities; and other Higher Education Institutions.
Our research strengths include art and design, creative industries, sport and leisure research, information management, communication, culture and media, planning, building and environment, health research, interactive systems technology and business and law. We have several members of staff willing to share their extensive knowledge and expertise.
Assistance from within the University can range from immediate answers to simple dilemmas to longer term tailored programmes of business support that can help in all areas from introductions to people, networking, potential investors and contacts, access to facilities, resources and expertise.
We provide a range of consultancy, Knowledge Transfer partnerships, training and business support programs in areas as diverse as; games design, Creative Music technology, Computing, Networking & Digital security, Information Studies, Social Informatics & Usability.
Facilities
Facilities are available on 3 separate campuses (Headingly Campus, Civic Quarter and Harrogate) and include a state-of- the-art Learning Centre (The Leslie Silver Building) with 24 hour facilities at peak times, offering an integrated, sophisticated library IT and multi-media service. With regional centres for Tennis, Athletics and Gymnastics, The University has facilities which are amongst the best in the North of England. Many world class sportsmen and women have been invited to train and prepare for their major events at Carnegie. Olympians Tracey Morris and Kelly Holmes are regular visitors.
Successes
Leeds Metropolitan University has a proven track record in supporting new and emerging businesses and delivers consultancy and facilities access for many new enterprises which have come through our 'Business Incubator' facility which has supported Over 100 companies, helping to create over 300 jobs within the region with turnover of £5,000,000 created. As well as offering business support the Business Incubator provides serviced office accommodation in quiet leafy surroundings in the heart of Leeds city centre.
